Jagu’s Process

Jagu has used all the physical and digital tools available. Originally working with mixed media including papier mache, wood, metal foil etc until her progressive paralysis compelled her to use tools which were less physical in nature.

Scanning her pencil sketches, sketching on her iPad & iPhone, the desktop computer, importing her photos and so on.  Since the new iPad Pro became available she moved to that medium.  It was much easier to use than a computer based tablet and less tiring.  She uses the Apple stylus instead of a pencil.  She was right handed but due to the progressive nature of her condition she has had to learn to use her left hand.

Over the past few years Jagu has been collecting her materials of visual texture, found objects, photographs of the patina on rocks and anything else she sees on her travels. Her travels have taken her to Sikkim, Ladakh, Himalayas, Kashmir, Rajasthan amongst other areas within India.

When she started working with the digital tools she was developing the skills in the processes of photography, scanning, capturing textures, layering and breaking down the elements in form, hue, texture and line. Since her last exhibition her work has become more intricate, intimate and meditative.

When she is working there is a peaceful and intense silence that surrounds her. Quietly and diligently she enters her work in which the mesmeric qualities of the images takes her into a parallel space.

Her previous exhibitions were held in Mumbai, East Germany, England and New Zealand..
